The premiere of Zygmunt Krauze’s opera “Night of the Ravens” will begin on July 2, the 5th Festival “Polish Music” of the Polish Royal Opera. The opera with a libretto by Małgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk is based on Adam Mickiewicz’s “Ballads and Romance”.
Zygmunt Krauze, in connection with the Year of Polish Romanticism, which is just celebrated, wrote the opera “Night of the Ravens” based on Adam Mickiewicz’s “Ballads and Romance”. Do not collaborate with the screenwriter, librettist Małgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk, they had not previously worked on the opera “Yemaya-Queen of the Seas”.
During the press conference, Zygmunt Krauze said that I always start probing the opera with words. For me, each word has the closest thing it can sound to. Authors me in composing or origin of a different origin, whether to find another origin, give it a different, different person in your channel. This is how I work on my route, being fit for the Word Now, as much guidance as I can, “he explained.” That they added to compose, I had to have a text that I believe and in every sentence, I feel, feel, I can convey something musically “-.
Sikorska-Miszczuk that for her libretto she drew motifs from Mickiewicz’s four ballads: “Rybki”, “Romantyczny”, “Lilija” and “To Like” and from the second part of “Dziady”. The librettist transferred these works to the present day. “What a contemporary girl who has lost love will do (…). My opera tells about the choice of a woman towards love, there are no threads that are ministered to, which are in Mickiewicz’s work,” they explained. “The heroine of Karus longs for her deceased lover. It is a sexual, sensual longing. They are not longing for sighing, we are not used to it, she misses her lover” – she added.
The director, Waldemar Raźniak, that he tried to say the voice of the character’s voice, often, to the voice that was bowed to her, must happen. answer that the basic dilemma of the “glass and the eye” and “feeling and faith”, which takes place in “Ballads and Romance”, translates into doubts of contemporary people. All science, psychology, neuroscience, all knowledge, not enough technology subsidy, and problems with more information, he added.
The conductor, Dawid Runtz, revealed that apart from typical orchestral instruments, Krauze also used the accordion, hurdy-gurdy, ocarina, and even stones. “Musicians who play the flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon, then have their textures inscribed, will change their instruments into ocarins” – he explained. He described the music from the Night of the Raven as dark, like from a horror film, intertwined with light, cheerful fragments.
