ILA 2022 in Berlin: program, tickets and background
2020 is the end of the International Aerospace Exhibition, after a four-year break the ILA in Berlin is returning in full force. In the foreground: the military.
The International Aerospace Exhibition takes place every two years, but in the Corona year 2020 it will take place in the water. After a four-year break, the time has come again: the ILA 2022 in Berlin-Schoenefeld begins on Wednesday. Several hundred exhibitors from the aerospace industry are presenting their technological achievements at the capital’s airport.
While climate-related changes in propulsion technology have been in the foreground in recent times, recent political developments have affected the programme: the military plays a major role at the ILA exhibition in the capital. Overview of the confrontation between Russia and the western countries increasingly focuses on modern war equipment. You can see combat aircraft and helicopters, which will also be used in the future armed forces stand.
ILA 2022: Chancellor opens trade fair – mega jets and war equipment
It is the first ILA ever since the new BER Airport went into operation. The flight program is therefore smaller than usual. The reason: Due to regular flight operations, the second runway can no longer be used for the aeronautics fair. Chancellor Olaf Scholz opens the International Aerospace Exhibition (ILA) on Wednesday (22 June). Fighter jets and military helicopters will take off for air shows, and there are large machines to leaf through.
The armaments industry has been flourishing since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, as can also be seen at the ILA 2022 in the German capital. Because it has been a long time since so much aircraft was used at the aerospace fair. This is also happening against a polarizing background: In the spring, the government paved the way for the 100 billion euro package that will modernize the Bundeswehr in the coming years.
Boeing, Airbus and Co: The exhibitors at the ILA 2022 in Berlin
Around 550 exhibitors are exhibiting at the ILA in Berlin – that’s almost half as many as at the last edition in 2018.

In addition to large and small companies in the aviation industry, the military complex plays a significant role. US companies such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin (manufacturers of the F-35 fighter jet) are showing modern fighter jets that, thanks to the mega-financial package, are supposed to bring the federal government’s air defense into shape.
However, the ILA has always had a monitored part, and highlights of civil aviation are of course not neglected either. There is also the (last built) double-decker A380 on display, as well as an A350 test aircraft and the Airbus transporter Beluga.
Aerospace Exhibition ILA: dates, tickets, costs
The ILA 2022 will close its doors next Sunday (June 26). There are two official visitor days at the International Aerospace Exhibition in Berlin: tickets for Saturday and Sunday were each limited to 10,000 visitors. And what about tickets for the ILA? Pretty bad for interested private visitors. The contingent is already sold out, like that official website Splits. For the weekend, the ILA program has an increase in air shows in store: on the trade visitor days, aircraft take off three times a day and five times on the weekend.
Space travel is not neglected either: A “Space Pavilion” illuminates the topics of sustainability and climate change, digitization and research as well as prevention. Ministries, science and space companies jointly present innovations for use on earth and in space. A highlight will be a lecture by the German astronaut Matthias Maurer on the third day of the fair (Friday, June 24).
