Toulouse. Ten times more deputies than in 2017
Historic evening for the RN which would total 89 seats at the Palais Bourbon, ten times more deputies than in 2017. For the first time, the far-right party is sending to the National Assembly the largest contingent of parliamentarians of its entire story. Elected hands down in her stronghold of Pas-de-Calais (more than 63% of the vote), Marine Le Pen, surfs on this tidal wave and already claims to “embody a firm but constructive opposition”, facing the majority presidential relative which found itself weakened at the end of this second round.
Behind the Nupes, the RN confirms and consolidates its status as the country’s third political force. “The people have spoken, said the former presidential candidate. He has decided to send a very powerful parliamentary group of National Rally deputies to the Assembly, which is becoming a little more national”.
Also for the first time, the RN has more deputies than LR-UDI during this election where the abstention rate reaches, according to estimates, 54%.
Strong symbol of this historic breakthrough, the defeat of a short head of the Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, former socialist, in Pas-de-Calais (6th district), beaten by the RN candidate, Christine Engrand (56 votes difference between the two rivals). Marine Le Pen should soon take the lead of the parliamentary group. Obtaining this group was the major objective displayed by the party.
