Toulouse. In ambush and “opposed” to Macron
No ambiguity on the right. The LR boss clearly wants to be in opposition. He repeated it, last night, after the election, “we campaigned in the opposition, we are in the opposition and we remain in the opposition. Things are very clear”, insisted, Christian Jacob. No pact with the presidential party, contrary to the declarations of Jean-François Copé who came very quickly to stir up trouble. The former UMP minister had indeed called for a “pact” between the Republicans and the Macronist deputies, “to fight against the rise of extremes”. Proposal rejected by Christian Jacob indicating that the former minister “speaks only in his name”. A dissonance that is already a stain within the traditional right.
The LR party could account for between 60 and 75 deputies in the National Assembly. The temptation is therefore great for the weak presidential majority to flirt on its right to seek allies. In ambush, LR could play the role of justice of the peace in the battles and fights to come between Nupes and Ensemble. We should therefore not see any alliance between LR and the presidential majority. “We will have to be in real opposition to the President of the Republic who will have destroyed everything”, continues Christian Jacob who is already laying the groundwork for a non-understanding, not redeemable for money. Aurélien Pradié, re-elected MP for Lot, explained in particular that there was “no reason” for LR to go “save the political skin of Emmanuel Macron”.
