And makes working outdoors a stress test. “It quickly gets too hot, the physical work is even more strenuous,” complains Kejan M., 37, a worker on a construction site on the Neuer Markt in Vienna. A look at the thermometer yesterday afternoon in the capital: 31.9 degrees in the shade. Borderline! Because: From 32.5, those responsible for construction can give shot-free.

When asked by AUSTRIA, trade unionist Josef Muchitsch warned of the impending summer heat: “Everywhere where the heat exceeds 32.5 degrees Celsius, my appeal: Please hire the employers! It does not help if there are accidents at work and construction workers or people who work outdoors suffer heavy tasks as a result.”
»A little less sun would be nice«
horses. The local inspection leads to the Fiaker horses in front of the Albertina. They are standing in the blazing sun. Temperature: 34.1 degrees. Only from 35 degrees there is no heat for them, it goes back to the stable.
heat job. This brand clearly changes the job of Can S., 32, employed at the Bitzinger sausage stand at the Albertina. “The outside temperatures are aggravating – especially because it’s twice as hot over the grill.”

Men’s suit. Habib C stands in the sun all day. He works as security in front of a jeweler on Kärntnerstrasse and has a tan. The 46-year-old’s work clothes: a black suit. “A little less sun would be nice,” he smiles. Our thermometer measured 36.6 degrees in the blazing sun.

sunshine joy. The only people happy about the temperatures being five to ten degrees above the June average are the ice cream vendors, the shops in the city center are full. I’ll treat myself to an ice cream too.
Positive news for all workers: the weekend will cool down and the extreme heat will end. At least in the short term…
