The mobilization continues in the emergency room of the Toulouse University Hospital. After the convergence with the psychiatry service which joined the movement last Monday, this Monday, June 20, it was the emergencies of Rangueil which joined the movement. With 100% strikers in Rangueil and Purpan, the strike movement took on unprecedented proportions.
If the strike continues, it is because the management completely disregards the demands of the strikers who denounce the lack of means and the considerable deterioration of the working conditions of the staff, as well as the conditions of treatment of the patients. One of the mobilized nurses explains: before, we had 72,000 patients and we went to 76,000, it’s huge, that’s 20 more patients a day… and they say that everything is fine “.
As a result, the strikers demanding hiring staff. But for the moment, the management pretends not to understand their demands and only gives crumbs, offers some reinforcements two days a week, but no job creation. The movement therefore continues. A meeting is scheduled with the management this Tuesday, June 22, after which an AG will decide on the consequences of the movement.
Towards a widening of the strike in Toulouse?
For caregivers, one thing is clear: there will be no recovery until management responds concretely to requests for hiring and resources. Despite the refusal of the management, the determination is received thanks to the solidarity received through the strike fund but also to the broadening of mobilization.
Three weeks after its start, the strike spreads, which considerably strengthens the balance of power against management. “Unity is strength” explains the striking nurse, who is delighted with the convergence with the Rangueil emergency room. Now that a unit has been built with Rangueil, the mobilized personnel are seeking to expand the movement to private clinics and emergencies in Toulouse, which would paralyze the city and would not be important in building the balance of power.
While the summer promises to be particularly nightmarish in hospitals, the fight in the Toulouse emergency room is showing the way to obtain hiring and bed openings, for the well-being of patients and to put an end to the infernal rates. However, since the day of national mobilization on June 7, no perspective of national struggle has been offered by the union leaderships.
However, as one of the mobilized nurses stated: if on a Monday all the emergencies in France closed, we would get our demands very quickly it could be good for the unions to organize that “. So what health care workers need is a national battle plan. A redoubled urgency the day after the results of the legislative elections which announce a very unstable five-year term, which opens breaches to snatch our demands.
While Macron is preparing an unprecedented social war, with orders and authoritarian measures, it is necessary to build a response from below for means in public services and for a general increase in wages. The strike movement is hardening in Toulouse, and is looking for ways to continue to expand, let’s support the CHU strikers more than ever until their demands are obtained!
