Rouen Métropole raises awareness of waste in stormwater networks
In order to reduce pollution in the rainwater collection networks, the metropolis has taken several actions to try to stop these discharges.
Rouen Métropole asked EJ and other manufacturers to make users aware of the waste discharged by rainwater networks. Indeed, the Rouen Normandy Metropolis installed nets along the Seine last November in order to avoid polluting the waterways. On March 15, 2022, an operation to lift these nets was carried out in Rouen: more than a ton of waste was thus collected so that they do not flow into the river, and good in the oceans.
“Here begins the sea”
As part of this approach, the company EJ, a supplier of road solutions, has developed a cast iron badge, intended to be installed next to the gutter gratings. It bears the inscription “Here begins the sea”, and a turtle appears on the stamp, reminding us of the importance of water for all ecosystems. First waste filtration point and visible on the public highway, the rainwater drainage grids are ideally designed to address users. The latter often drop cigarette butts, papers and other waste there, sometimes thinking that the rainwater is taken to a treatment plant, unaware that it is discharged directly into the natural environment.
The company will be presented at the Carrefour des gestions locales de l’eau on June 29 and 30, in Rennes, where it will present its latest innovations.
