Gas supply is provided to Hungary
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade explained that due to technical problems, several European countries (France, Germany and Italy) received less Russian gas than contracted. Peter Szijjártó said that
Hungary has received 88 percent of the planned quantity in the recent period.
On the southern supply route, the Russian gas in question was complete, but for technical reasons a reduced quantity was received from the west. In connection with this, the Minister called on his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, and requested that, until the disruption is resolved, a quantity of gas be transferred to Hungary from the west on the southern route so that the booked quantity can arrive in full.
The Hungarian-Russian contract for gas supply was extended by the Hungarian government with Gazprom last September. Under this, a 15-year supply agreement was reached.
The presenter asked the minister why, according to Eurostat, only Lithuanians in Europe buy Russian gas more expensive than Hungary. Péter Szijjártó replies that these are encrypted long-term contracts, so only the signatories can know the amounts involved in the agreements. He added that he has no information on how much the other countries in the region buy Russian gas for, but it is assured that Hungary has made a very advantageous ministerial deal.
Natural gas transmission is not an ideological issue
– said Péter Szijjártó. He explained that the government has created a situation where it can buy gas from all possible directions in the country. They say countries that have not done their homework in recent years, that is, have not built the necessary sourcing routes, can only rely on themselves. He cited the Southern Corridor from Azerbaijan as an example, for which not all European countries have developed it physically, but Hungary has. The minister also mentioned that the country also has a long-term contract with Schell.
