New emergency strike at the Toulouse University Hospital: only vital emergencies will be accepted on Monday June 20
At the Toulouse University Hospital, after the emergency personnel of the Purpan site, that of Rangueil joined the strike. Consequently, only vital emergencies will be received from Monday June 20 at 7 a.m. to Tuesday June 21 at 7 a.m.
For the third Monday in a row, a strike led by the CGT and Sud unions mobilized adult emergency care staff at the Toulouse University Hospital Center (CHU). After Purpan, Rangueil’s staff joined the movement. Consequently, the management of the Toulouse University Hospital announces that “from Monday June 20 at 7 a.m. and until Tuesday June 21 at 7 a.m., the adult emergencies of the Purpan hospital and the emergencies of the Rangueil hospital will only receive vital emergencies directed by the SAMU (Allo 15), psychiatric emergencies will only maintain consultations.” On average, adult emergencies at the Toulouse University Hospital (Rangueil and Purpan) record 400 visits per day.
During the previous weeks, on Mondays June 6 and 13, the management of the Toulouse University Hospital had to close part of the Purpan emergencies and a regulation system had been put in place to only accommodate vital emergencies at the University Hospital. . The population had been invited not to go directly to the hospital but to contact in priority a general practitioner, other emergency services in private establishments or even 15 (Samu 31). This device is resumed for Monday, June 20th.

What to do in an emergency ?
From Monday June 20 at 7 a.m. to Tuesday June 21 at 7 a.m., the adult emergencies of Purpan and Rangueil (Toulouse University Hospital) are not canceled except for the vital emergencies sent by the Samu (hello 15).
- In case of a life-threatening emergency, contact 15
- If your state of health does not justify a call to the Samu but you want a medical response adapted to your needs (medical or therapeutic advice, a consultation appointment with a doctor, a prescription renewal, etc.), contact private health establishments, your general practitioner or 39 66 after 8 p.m., to be taken care of by a general practitioner on duty.
This strike comes in a complicated context for all health establishments faced with staff departures and recruitment difficulties. For their part, nurses, carers but also doctors are regularly part of their difficulties and their fatigue, especially after two years of mobilization to deal with the Covid-19 epidemic. The strikers are demanding more resources.
In a press release, the CGT union underlines that “the hour is serious, the hospital is on the edge of the abyss”. “If hospital staff are mobilizing today, it is to defend access to health for all in good conditions, which our rulers, who have been destroyers of the public hospital service, have had nothing to do with for years. We need to hire now!

On Friday, the paramedic teams of Samu 31 expressed their support for their colleagues in the emergency reception services of the Toulouse University Hospital, mentioning “emergencies which are regularly overflowing and which are already out of breath at the start of the summer”. “Despite many calls for help, we do not seem to be heard, the long-awaited Ségur has given birth to a mouse”.
The management of the CHU will propose to reinforce the emergencies of Purpan
For its part, the management of the Toulouse University Hospital ensures that it works with the teams and the staff representatives. In particular, she indicated proposals for the next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday 21 June. In a press release, the Toulouse University Hospital recalls that the “walking forward” project, implemented in the Purpan emergency room in 2019, has enabled “significant reinforcement of staff, has demonstrated its effectiveness, in particular during the COVID crisis. It is a question of organizing the reception of patients requiring urgent care, with care in an initial assessment and care area, then referral to care and monitoring areas adapted to the severity of the the patients”.
Faced with the request of the staff of this organization, the management will propose “to add a pair of nurses/caregivers working in the simple surveillance zone to the two pairs of nurses/caregivers already assigned. This reinforcement will be present continuously 5 days a week and 12 p.m. on the 2 less busy days. On the other hand, the nursing post already granted in mid-May for the summer period only from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. 7 days a week, will be transformed into an assistant post. – caring 24 hours a day throughout the year.
