Thessaloniki: How much will the taxi fare go up – The new prices
By MARIA KOUZOUFI
Explosive fuel prices are leading to increases in taxi fares, as, according to motorists, their industries are facing a very big problem and have no other endurance.
The Panhellenic Taxi Federation informed with its announcement that after a meeting held by the Bureau of POIEATA on 16/6/2022 with the Ministry, the Minister accepted the unanimous proposal of the federation for the adjustment of the fare. The new invoice will be valid, from which the relevant Government Gazette is indicated, something that will be done next week.
“We are moving with oil, which is why we asked for the adjustment. “As long as there is no fuel subsidy, or fuel reduction for professionals, we will have to adjust the tariff to cover some of our operating costs,” he said. Speaking to “TyposThes” the president of the Association of Taxi Owners of Thessaloniki “O Hermes” Mr. Klimis Leontiadis.
As he notes, the tariff has been adjusted for 14 years, since 2008, while respondents are afraid that it will affect the traffic, he states that “the increase is not so big as to prevent people from taking taxis. It will be within reasonable limits. The passenger will not see a huge difference in each route “. “The price of the fare that exists so far did not help and that is why we asked for an adjustment. The money we receive is very little, based on the accuracy that exists. It is not only the oil, it is also the other items that have gone up, such as spare parts etc “, he adds.
Generally throughout the coronavirus pandemic, people used the taxi a lot for fear of getting on the buses. Nowadays, when there is work, taxis run in the city. However, if there is no work they prefer to be in the squares. “As long as there is a taxi in the squares, you should know that there is no work”, Mr. Leontiadis emphasizes characteristically.

Change of pricing policy by Beat as well
In the meantime, “commission cost of € 1.92 to € 2” was imposed by Beat from Thursday, June 16, as their company informed.
In particular, the company announcement states:
“For more than 11 years we have had a cost to be able to find quality services with the known security and reliability, with which BEAT was identified. Despite the fact that we are planning very nice things for the future, unfortunately it is impossible today to continue with the same operating model.
With the demand for taxi services constantly and a total of 61% compared to 2019, it is difficult for drivers to cope, and at the same time to work with applications. The higher operating costs of a taxi combined with one of the lowest taxi prices in Europe and the conscious choice of BEAT to pay taxes to the Greek state and not abroad, make a change necessary.
From tomorrow, June 16, 2022 at 12:00 noon, in all taxi calls through BEAT there will be a commission cost of € 1.92 to € 2. This change will serve the income of our drivers and allow us to make more customers. “For our part, we will continue to monitor the market closely, constantly evaluating this decision and its results, in order to make any adjustments if deemed necessary or to impose any new regulatory decisions on the cost of taxi services.”
It is noted that the cost of supply is a legal charge according to the legislation, which can range from € 0 to € 5.65 (decision number YME A54501 / 5518 / 28.1.2014) and corresponds to the amount to be paid for the use of a taxi call service. It is already used by most telephone or digital taxi providers in Greece. According to Beat, the amount is collected by the driver.
