Berlin (dpa)? The Champions League in track cycling is coming to Berlin for the first time. On November 19th, the series of the World Cycling Union (UCI) will stop at the Velodrome. This emerges from the calendar for the 2022 season published on Friday. The five race series begins on November 12th and concludes with a double round on December 2nd and 3rd. Other stations are Palma de Mallorca, Paris and London.
“Of course I’m happy that Berlin is part of the racing series. It’s always nice to drive in front of a home crowd. I also think that the new format can attract new fans and Berlin has always been a good address in the past . that’s why I’m quite sure that it will be a great evening in the velodrome,” said former world champion Stefan Bötticher. The Chemnitz native took second place behind the Dutch Olympic champion and world champion Harrie Lavreysen in the 2021 season.
In the women’s inaugural season, Emma Hinze from Cottbus secured victory in the women’s sprinters and a bonus of 25,000 euros ahead of her teammate Lea Sophie Friedrich. The field of drivers will be finalized after the World Championships in St. Quentin-en-Yvelines near Paris in mid-October.
