European Days of Archeology in the Alpes Maritimes and Monaco
The European Archeology Days take place throughout France on June 17, 18 and 19, 2022.
JAE 2022 – This event of the Ministry of Culture organized by Inrap honors hundreds of local or national initiatives that introduce archeology to everyone, everywhere in France and Europe.
In the Alpes Maritimes and Monaco, many museums will be open (free or paying) to offer their treasures to the general public.

The Augustan trophy is awarded from 7-6 BC in honor of the Emperor Augustus, following the submission of the peoples of the Alps. Located on the border between Gaul and Italy, it celebrates the unity and power of the Roman Empire.
Traditionally, trophies are dedicated to deities of victory. The trophy of Augustus is part of the landscape of a sanctuary dedicated to Heracles Monoikos, from which derives the name of Monaco. Augustus is thus assimilated to Heracles-Hercules, a demi-god promised to immortality after the completion of his twelve labours.

The Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology was founded by Prince Albert I in 1902 “in order to preserve the vestiges of primitive humankind exhumed from the soil of the Principality and the surrounding regions”. It was established within the confines of the Exotic Garden by Prince Rainier III in 1959. This new building is the work of the Monegasque architect Louis Rué.
