bathing prohibited at Lac de Sesquières due to the proliferation of cyanobacteria
The level of toxoids and microcystins tolerated having been exceeded in the waters of Lake Sesquières, the town hall of Toulouse has issued an order prohibiting swimming and nautical activities, from midnight on Saturday June 18 until ‘to ‘June 20 at least.
It is a regulatory health control that is at the origin of this ban. A sample taken this Friday, June 17 in the waters of Lac de Sesquières in Toulouse revealed the abnormally high presence of cyanobacteria:
- toxoids above detection limit
- microcystins greater than 0.3 µg/L
The health risks being significant, the city of Toulouse immediately issued a municipal decree: from Saturday June 18 at midnight to Monday June 20 at 11 p.m., swimming is prohibited, as are water activities and the consumption of fishing products. Dogs must also be kept on a leash to prevent them from accessing the lake and swallowing the toxins in question.
Any offender is liable to a fine.
Bad news in these times of heat wave in the Toulouse region. The city of Toulouse has already planned a new health check on this area from the beginning of next week.
