Annecy 2022 – WIP “Léo (The Inventor)”: The last years of Leonardo da Vinci in stop motion and 2D
Started at Cartoon Movie in 2020, the project entirely carried out at Foliascope in Valence has unveiled some exclusive images to the Annecy public.
Ilan Urroz recalled that Leo has also been enriched with an exceptional voice cast, including Stephen Fry who plays Leonardo da Vinci, Daisy Ridley that of Princess Marguerite, Matt Berry that of the Pope and Marion Cotillard that of the Queen. The latter will be kept for the French version. Produced in stop motion and 2D, Leo could also count on the supervision of Tomm Moore. In addition, everything was integrated into the Foliascope during this shoot, which started last February, “using as little glue as possible, explained Ilan Urroz.” The film benefits from the shock modernization measure of the CNC.
Leo is a co-production between Ireland and the United States. It takes on the Californian company Aerial Contrivance Workshop (ACW), whose first feature film it is, as well as Curiosity Studio, Foliascope, SIE Films, Leo & King LLC, KMBO, MK2 Films, The Exchange, Slated and Cofiloisirs. The partners are Dassault Systèmes, Clos Lucé and the CNC. The Annecy company, Inthebox, produces the special effects. The film has already sold around the world, including the major territories of Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand. Its delivery is scheduled for next year.
