The port of Bilbao, present at Multimodal 2022 in Birmingham
The Port Authority of Bilbao has once again been present with a stand at Multimodal 2022, the main supply chain management, logistics and freight transport event in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Northern Europe, which has taken place between the June 14 and 16 at the NEC in Birmingham. At the end of last year, the port of Bilbao and its port community, represented by Uniport, also traveled to the British city to “show muscle” intermodal.
For three days, Birmingham has become the benchmark for the supply chain in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Northern Europe, with more than 9,000 participants, representing all sectors of logistics.
In this new edition of Multimodal, in addition to the exhibition, there has been room for innovative seminar sessions, digital seminars on current industry issues and networking events, with sustainability and the resilience of the supply chain as axes and with the goal of harnessing the power of people, technology and innovation to drive future-proof logistics.

At the stand, the Port Authority of Bilbao has held meetings with professionals from the sector, has brought logistics innovations closer to carriers, retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, importers and exporters, and has presented its multimodal offer and strategic investments for more sustainable transport.
Among the main novelties that are presented is the BilbOPS project for the electrification of the docks, deploying the OPS technology with the aim that the auxiliary engines of the ships can be turned off, and still continue to maintain essential services.
Thanks to this project, in addition to vibrations and noise, greenhouse gases will be reduced by 40% and, with this initiative and other complementary measures, the Port Authority hopes to achieve the 55% emission reduction target established by the Union Europe by 2030.

It should be remembered that the port of Bilbao is a strategic enclave for short sea shipping in the Atlantic Arc, and the first Spanish port in traffic with the United Kingdom and Ireland.
One out of every three goods between Spain and the United Kingdom passes through the Port of Bilbao, with 11 regular services per week with this country and connections with 47 British ports.
