According to a recent survey, Hungary is one of the most peaceful countries in the world
It became more peaceful with the world last year that the effects of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict were only partially reflected in the metrics, according to an annual report by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) in London on Wednesday. According to the study, Hungary is in the most peaceful top fifteen fields of the 163 countries and regions studied.
In a 104-page survey, the IEP found that the global economic impact of acts of violence in a broader sense, including military spending, was $ 16,500 billion in 2021. That equates to 10.9 percent of the world’s gross domestic product, and that means unrest last year cost the world an average of $ 2,117.
The economic impact has consumed an average of 34 per cent of GDP in the ten countries most affected by violence, and the rate of GDP loss in the fewest countries since violence was 3.6 per cent in 2021. According to the IEP survey presented on Wednesday, military expenditures as a share of gross domestic product were down 94 years last year, and the number of personnel in the armed forces has been steadily declining in 112 countries since 2008.
However, according to the organization, the next situation could worsen due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, among other factors, as several NATO members could increase their military spending to 2 percent of NATO’s minimum required by NATO as a result of the conflict. The study highlights that China, even independent of the war in Ukraine, plans to increase its military spending by 7.2 percent this year.
Although the full effects of the war in Ukraine will only be felt after this, the conflict is already having a significant impact on the overall peace index. This is indicated by the deterioration of the indicators of many countries that are close to Russia, he said. The IEP included Finland, Sweden, Romania, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Moldova.
Afghanistan received the worst overall index this year, with Yemen, Syria, Russia and South Sudan in the top five. Russia is ranked 160th on the 163rd country list, five places lower than last year. Ukraine was ranked 17th, 153rd, due to this year’s peace index. The most peaceful top five groups are Iceland, New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark and Austria.
Hungary graduated in a good place
Slovenia is in the best place in the EU region of Central and Eastern Europe: the IEP is seventh on this year’s list. Within the EU field in Central Europe, the Czech Republic ranks second with 8th place. Hungary is two places ahead of this year in this year’s global peace index statement. Finland and Croatia are still in the top 15 after Hungary. These countries are in the “very high” peace index group as defined by the IEP. Slovakia is ranked 20th, Poland 25th and Romania 31st.
