“At the break, we asked them if we were ending the season like this or if we were ourselves until the end,” said coach Marc Dantin. Stade Toulousain struggled to get into their game yesterday, hampered by the uninhibited Lyonnais who boldly played their luck. But the Haut-Garonne came back with better intentions after the break and above all more technical accuracy.
Because in the first period, the young Toulouse shooters were in difficulty in the conquest, mistreated in the scrum when they seemed physically above and jostled in touch. Lack of hands, bad choice, the Stadistes took the meeting by the wrong end and the LOU took advantage of it, thanks to their scorers Nottet and Dumas. Three perfect penalties, and a nine-point advantage after the 40th minute of play.
On a superb game action, the “red and black” progressed well, breaking the tackles, and transmitting after contact. Hugo Pichardie inherited the ball at the edge of the line, rebuffed his vis-à-vis before going to conclude (7-9, 45th). A beautiful story, for the young Spaniard from Madrid, landed this season among the young people of Toulouse. “It’s the first time I’ve experienced an atmosphere like that, it’s huge. In addition, we won. It’s a great first year, in addition I play, it’s incredible”, reacted the Madrid player, still moved by this coronation.
Galtier came to slam a drop in stride (10-9, 53rd) to knock out Lyonnais who sank at the very end of the game on a try from Ben Alla following a carried ball (15-9, 70th). “A few defensive inaccuracies on our part, and we take a try that puts them back in the game. At 80%, we did what we had to and on 20%, we eat a little on our own, it’s a shame. They knew how to react, to adapt in their strategy”, noted the coach of Lyon Rémi Grosso. A season in apotheosis for the Stade Toulousain, nine years after its last coronation in Crabos.
