According to A. Anušauskas, “the acquisition of the French Caesar MarkII generation artillery system will be the largest project of the Lithuanian Armed Forces with France in history, which has significantly strengthened the defense capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.”
According to the minister, this acquisition is one of those preceded by the threat of Russia in the region and the war in Ukraine. “What happened by accident around 2030 and later will happen, for example, in 2027,” said A. Anušauskas.
The artillery battalion of Brigadier General Motiejus Pečiulionis will be equipped with the new artillery systems. It replaced the 105 mm towed howitzer currently owned by the Žemaitija Brigade unit, which “no longer meets the requirements of mobility and firepower of modern battle”.
The Caes artillery system is currently used or acquired by several NATO unions in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark and France.
