The trees of great photographers
Thirty years ago, Reporters Without Borders published its first album “100 photos for press freedom”. Number 70 has just been released. I have them all and I’m very proud of them (although it doesn’t make me any younger!)
The images are always strikingly beautiful and translate into snapshots of life, often overwhelming. The photo is of incredible strength. It must express everything, immediately catch the attention, encourage reflection, to situate oneself in relation to this image that one has just received without being prepared for it. An image delivers a message, without pretty words, without beautiful sentences, without introduction, development and conclusion. The instinct is happy with a story. After having first questioned the heart, it goes to seek explanations from the side of reason which sorts out what it possesses of knowledge acquired according to curiosity. Often questions remain, it is the interest of the photo that encourages the person who receives it to look further.
But sometimes it is not necessarily worth finding an explanation. Sticking to the heart is often more rewarding than begging for reason.
This new RSF album is attributed to trees. No need for intellectual hassles to understand life in its extraordinary simplicity. Who better than a tree can teach us about life? For us, it is reborn every year but in truth, it has never ceased to live, where we cannot see it. Just feel it.
Allow yourself the luxury of sitting or lying under a tree, open your eyes, your ears, your nose, all the pores of your skin and finally, your heart. The tree explains everything to you. If it is, he will show you a small bird’s nest, a caterpillar, a pretty lichen, a beautiful moss. The wrinkles in its bark, the strength of its roots, the lightness of its foliage. And you will find it breathtakingly beautiful! not
