Russian Robert Redford. Galina Brezhneva’s girlfriend survived Vidov from the USSR, and he found love in the USA
It was not for nothing that Oleg Vidov got the role of Gvidon in The Tale of Tsar Saltan: outwardly, he went to the handsome prince. With age, the noble features of the face were not distorted, which even became a problem after moving to America, because Oleg Borisovich could not play the “evil Russian” with his kind look.
You had an amazing fate: he managed to live in Yugoslavia, Italy, the USA, found friends and associates all over the world and captivated attention and, of course, made women fall in love with him. But did Oleg Vidov want to roam the world? On June 11, the actor turned 79 years old, and we talk about the pangs of choice that fell on his lot.
Difficult youth
Oleg Vidov loved that his parents were not registered, and therefore “lost” during the Great Patriotic War. On the very birthday of Oleg, all the potatoes were stolen from the cellar, leaving only beets, so the actor said that he was fed with “candle milk”. Vidov was brought up by his mother-teacher and aunt Nyuta, who ran an amateur theater: it was she who instilled in the child a love of art.
The future artist spent the first years of his life in Filimonki, Moscow Region, then went with his mother to Mongolia, and then to the GDR, where he worked as an editor in a publishing house. Upon returning, the family settled in Barvikha, but when the parent was sent to China and Romania, the boy lived in Alma-Ata with his aunt.
In the late 50s, Oleg Vidov’s mother received a disability, so after graduating from eight classes, she began working as an assistant cook, a loader and an electrician during the construction of the Ostankino TV tower, and a nurse. Once in the emergency room, Vidov was noticed by an employee of Mosfilm, and so our hero first appeared on the set – he starred in an episode of the film “My friend, Kolka!”, Which, however, was not included in the final version of the recording.
glory period
The world of cinema managed to capture Vidov, so he got into the exams and entered the acting department of VGIK. Much later, when the artist had already gained weight in the industry, he also graduated from the directing department of the university.
First, Oleg starred in the episodes “Doomsday” and “If you’re right …”, participation in “I’m walking around Moscow.” Soon the actor found himself in the role of noble handsome men: he met the ensign in the Blizzard, the Bear in the Ordinary Miracle by Erast Garin, Prince Gvidon in The Tale of Tsar Saltan. Then the Dane Gabriel Axel called him for the role of Prince Hagbard in The Red Robe, and even released him to shoot in Scandinavia.

After the triumph of the picture abroad of the Soviet star, everyone was invited to foreign projects. During that period in the homeland of Vidov, he watched a policeman in “Gentlemen of Fortune”, and then added to the piggy bank a ribbon, which to this day is considered the main one in his films – “Headless Horseman”.
But the further, the more restrictions imposed on activities. Not members of the public opinion of the actor and earnings. “We were paid pennies. And the artist needs to eat normally, dress normally – we are always in sight! Many families, moreover, had to dangle with concerts in order to earn money … ”Oleg Borisovich complained.

And in the event of a shortage in the USSR. One gets the impression that someone deliberately squeezed Vidov out of the domestic cinema and out of the country. And apparently, the suspicions were not groundless …
Soviet wives
For the first time Oleg Vidov married in 1966, an artist named Marina. The couple quickly realized that they had not found each other, but the separation was still painful: the woman admitted that she threw away all the photos with her husband, if only to destroy everything in memory of him.
Then the actor laid eyes on Natalya Fedotova, the daughter of Professor Vasily Shevyakov and a close friend of Galina Brezhneva. How exactly Vidov drew attention to Fedotova, the versions differ: some said that the artist liked Brezhneva herself, so she brought him together with a friend to keep the handsome man in sight. Natalya also announced the good intentions of the heiress of the Secretary General.

“According to Galina, Oleg literally lay at her feet, begging to persuade me to marry. “Tomorrow or never!” I answered. But the next day at the registry office was a day off. I didn’t even set the alarm. And Galya flew in early in the morning: “Urgently paint, you’ll be at the registry office by nine!” And with relish she told how Oleg took on the task in a day and persuaded the registry office employees to go to work and paint us. She snatched a dress from the closet, pulled it over me: “We’ll fit in great in nature!” She was wearing a brown velvet skirt and a cream blouse, and I was wearing a green dress instead of the traditional light one! In full confidence that this was a hoax, I went with her. And in 40 minutes she was married! Two weeks after we met!” Natalia shared.
A son, Vyacheslav, was born in marriage, but it was difficult to call it a strong union. It was rumored that Fedotova did not matter Vidova equal to herself and a year later had an affair with Fidel Castro, which the whole bohemian party knows about. Oleg Borisovich fell into depression because of what happened, but he couldn’t even fly from his wife to betrayal: his wife, the keeper of compromising evidence, photographed the artist against the background of a scantily clad Malvina Cherry. The girl was passionately in love with a movie star and often purposely exposed herself in his vicinity.

In 1976, Vidov filed for divorce, and since then, life has turned into an announcement because of the intrigues of his ex-wife: the actor’s name was even removed from posters in the cities where he toured. “He got divorced and got into trouble. We met, and he told me that he had lost his apartment and car. At Mosfilm they stopped filming him. I was supposed to help Oleg … ”, Vladimir Vinokur shared in the Live program of the Russia 1 channel.
Life in exile
Fedotova does not come up not only to Vidov, but to him and the captain to see his own. Many filmmakers even stopped saying hello to the actor, believing that he had fallen. “Probably, in such a situation, I would go to the Cinema House, be friends with the“ right ”people, but I was lonely, and I was only interested in my personal life. I matured and realized that there was nothing for me to do in the USSR, ”the artist admitted.
Friends helped the actor to include a fictitious marriage with a citizen of Yugoslavia, and Vidov moved there. He managed to play in several films until he received a call to the police: within 72 hours, Oleg Borisovich had to return to the USSR. A friend from Slovenia helped to get an entry visa to Austria, but the artist did not have an exit visa. I had to go through the procedure after midnight, when customs checks were not so thorough.

In Vienna, the actor applied for a visitor visa to Italy, where he settled with Richard Harrison and his wife in French, who already provided American documents. A correspondent for a major newspaper, Joan Borsten, came to the Harrisons in Rome, with whom Vidov began an affair.
“In bad English, I told her a lot about myself. She listened patiently and kindly. Joan is a person who turns any negative information into positive. She supported me, and I am beautiful, that this is a dear and very close person, ”the actor confessed.
In America, lovers fly together, and in 1989 a marriage was registered. The actor will return to shoot: in “Red Heat”, “Wild Orchid” with Mickey Rourke. While working on the last picture, Vidov almost crashed on his motorcycle, suddenly losing his sight. With the formation of a pituitary tumor in the fourth stage. The doctors did not give false hopes, but after the operation, nature restored, returned to the cinema and lived for another 28 years, which was undoubtedly a miracle.

A couple of years later, the guy moved to the United States, where he entered the university. Joan behaved like a wise woman: she accepted the young man into the family, turning into a second mother for him.
Illness and care
“Running on Ice”, “Thirteen Days”, “American Gull” – Oleg Vidov continued until 2014. He managed to see how Sergei became a father, and in 2010 he came to Russia to visit the heir Vyacheslav. Moscow doctors diagnosed him with multiple myeloma.
The disease does not spread about a malignant tumor from plasma cells, presumably the fight against the lesion in the closest people. discovered that the actor would cope with this disease, as once with the formation on the hypothalamus, but in early 2017 it became clear that cancer was winning the fight.
“When we put him in headquarters at the beginning of May, I thought that everything would be the same as before. He didn’t want to die in the hospital, so we took him home. The whole family was there, we watched Russian films every day, he was glad and happy. We didn’t leave him. I think we did everything we could to make him feel comfortable,” Joan shared.
