Great-great-grandfather of the current ruler Albert IIhe spent nearly thirty years of his existence traveling the seas of the globe, from the Azores to the Caribbean, passing through Cape Verde and the polar regions of the Arctic.
Initiating the main oceanographic campaigns of the end of the 19th century, a pioneer in many fields, he also made Le Rocher the place of all innovations by organizing there in particular one of the first seaplane meetings and the flight of a prototype of ‘Helicopter.
With his wife the princess Alice, Albert I gives the Principality an unprecedented artistic influence.
