In Toulouse, an Arabic newspaper soon available
On June 19, a few weeks before the release of its first monthly issue, Back Arabic will be present at the World Languages Forum, on the Place du Capitole in Toulouse. A good way for Salim Benabderrahmane, its founder, to raise awareness of this Arabic-language newspaper on which he has been working for several years.
“There were several mock-ups and a hundred copies printed in 2020. 70 were sold, which allows me to now have a press agent who trusts me”, explains the one who takes care “about of everything” in this newspaper. A passion for this Oranais, son of a librarian, who grew up in Orléans, with Arabic and French.
Today, he dedicates his time, outside of his job in marketing, to the promotion of Arabic culture and language. In particular, he hosts a local weekly radio program, which he put on hold to launch the newspaper and organize conferences.
This 12-page monthly, which will be sold at 1 euro, “will mix current events and history, making links between the two”, assures Salim Benabderrahmane. ” Back Arabic will be a first at the local level in France. It is an Arabic-language newspaper, culturally rooted in the territory of Occitania, which has always had links with Al-Andalus (Editor’s note Arab-Muslim Spain). I myself come from an Andalusian family that immigrated to North Africa. »
To perfect his mastery of languages, he made stops in Andalusia and Damascus, before the start of the Syrian conflict. A Toulouse resident for ten years, he hopes to see Back Arabicwhich should be released at the end of June, beginning of July, in around a hundred points of sale in the Pink City.
