Candidate Renaud Le Berre (Nupes) wants to defend the French in Monaco on the housing issue
He is the surprise of this first round. Came in first in the 5e constituency of French nationals living abroad with 6,492 votes, ahead of outgoing MP Stéphane Vojetta (6,123 votes) and his rival Manuel Valls (4,024 votes), candidate Renaud Le Berre (Nupes) is entering the second act of the legislative elections with serenity. If he is elected on the evening of June 19, this 54-year-old Morlaisien, professor of economics and social sciences in Barcelona and adviser to French people living abroad since 2014, is determined to carry the voice of the French in Andorra, Spain, Portugal and, of course, Monaco in the National Assembly. Maintenance.
Do you expect to come out on top on the first lap?
I thought I would qualify in the second round because the balance of power was in my favour, but not to come out on top. This result rewards collective work in the field. The rivalry between Manuel Valls and Stéphane Vojetta had however engulfed the debates.
No one ever talked about me, about my program, when I was everywhere.
If you are elected on June 19, what type of deputy will you be?
Both a deputy on the ground, who will listen to French people abroad, but also a program to defend an ecological and social project in the National Assembly. Public services have deteriorated, as has cultural policy. For five years, on the impression that the government, on which Mr. Vojetta relies, has completely forgotten the French people in our constituency. We are second-class citizens and it’s a shame…
What are the main lines of your program?
I wish, for the entire constituency, a return to consular public services so that the French can experience their citizenship abroad. It is also a question of developing the French cultural presence with the development of linguistic cooperation projects between our countries, the strengthening of French. One of my first actions will be aimed at entrepreneurs with the establishment of a fund to finance and support innovative projects that respect the environment and facilitate the energy transition. I would also be very sensitive to environmental issues. It is increasingly difficult to live on the shores of the Mediterranean, where biodiversity is weakened. We must no longer consider this sea as a garbage can but save it.
“There is discrimination against the French in Monaco”
What issues did you produce in Monaco?
On housing, there is discrimination against French people who have lived in Monaco for a very long time. It is a very big problem. For that, you have to go through negotiations. I also identified the problem of seconded teachers. There was a recent decree which has been repealed, but not removed, which greatly increases the pension contribution rate. He is likely to have a big problem of recruitment in teaching, in particular in Monaco.
In the first round, you come in 6th position in Monaco with only 94 votes. How to convince voters?
To convince them, I want to defend them so that they have cheap accommodation, so that there is no longer this discrimination between Monegasques and French people from Monaco. I will try to go to the Principality but we are always limited by funds. I haven’t forgotten the French in Monaco at all.
According to you, Stéphane Vojetta still surfed on the rejection of Manuel Valls rather than on his program. Why ?
His only program in the first round was against Manuel Valls. Its current program is the extension of a policy deficit for the French abroad, of the deterioration of public services. Between the two towers, I will no doubt be accused of being too left-wing when I am a moderate environmentalist. We are defending a very specific program, very focused on our constituency, to bring up a certain number of values in the National Assembly.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon recently declared “Police Tuesday”. Do you support these proposals?
No. I disagree with this approach. When there is a drama like this, we can already think of the family. We live in a very tense environment. The police, due to a lack of resources and poor training, can be more nervous. It is necessary to calm relations between the population and the police, that the latter is close. It would be necessary to retransform the company, that it is less struck.
