Parliament ratifies the Agreement on the European Cooperative State between the Government of Bulgaria and the European Space Agency – Politics
Parliament adopted at first and second reading a Bill ratifying the Agreement on European Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the European Agency, signed on 15 February 2022 in Toulouse, France.
Through the Agreement, the cooperation in Bulgaria with the European Space Agency continues. Ratification means further access to Bulgarian companies (including small and medium enterprises), academic and research organizations (including universities) to the opportunity to participate in projects a priority for the agency.
In the last few years, 37 projects have been approved. Among them are the project of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for a dosimeter – a device for studying cosmic radiation, already working in orbit, according to the parliamentary committee on education and science in the report on the bill.
Finance the participation in projects and experiments, for the modernization of the material and technical base and equipment, for the support of small and medium enterprises, for the use of data. Projects in space research, astronomy, astrophysics, earth observation research for practical purposes, such as environmental protection, meteorology, geodesy, telecommunications, micronavigation, medicine, education and awareness.
The implementation of the Agreement is related to the financial commitment for Bulgaria, which currently amounts to BGN 2,689,300 per year, which are to finance Bulgarian projects in the tender procedures of the European Space Agency for Bulgaria. The costs of implementing the Agreement are at the expense of the approved budget of the Ministry of Innovation and Growth for the year. Once ratified, the Agreement will enter into force on the date of signature of the Charter in the Plan for a European Cooperative State, scheduled for 14-15 June 2022.
One year before the expiration of the Agreement, the results of the test of my strength will be reviewed, during which Bulgaria will have the opportunity to become an associate member of the European Space Agency before the expiration of the additional five-year term.
