A goalkeeper on the way out?
Qualified in the Champions League play-offs, AS Monaco had an eventful season, with a miraculous comeback that allowed them to grab the podium. But many executives were to leave this summer. Strong man of the Monegasque season, goalkeeper Alexander Nübel could be one of them.
AS Monaco ended the Ligue 1 exercise on a high note. Of its last 10 meetings, the club from the principality has won 9 from affiliates, allowing it to grab the 3e step of the podium, synonymous with Champions League play-offs. This 3e place, the Monegasques owe it in large part to Wissam Ben Yedder (25 goals, 5 assists), but also to their goalkeeper Alexander Nübel (11 clean sheets and only 40 goals conceded in 38 games).
But according to the German press, and the daily Sport Bild, the goalkeeper loaned last July by Bayern Munich could return to the Bavarian club this summer, and extend his contract there.
One more year of contract in Monaco
Loaned for two years in the club of the principality, the German goalkeeper impressed Bayern. Author of 14 clean sheets in 49 games in all competitions this season, Alexander Nübel had declared that he wanted to honor the end of his loan to Monaco, that is until June 2023. But the Sport Bild newspaper also reveals Bayern Munich’s plans for his possible switch.
Indeed, Manuel Neuer’s understudy during the only season he played in Munich, he could become his successor. Even if the 36-year-old goalkeeper, who has started 28 times this season in the Bundesliga, has extended his short-term contract until 2024, his performances in recent seasons would have put doubt in the minds of the Bavarian leaders. If the 25-year-old goalkeeper does not want to be Manuel Neuer’s understudy for one more season, the club will meet with him soon to talk about the future, and a possible extension. What to worry about AS Monaco, who could lose it this summer? Response in the coming weeks.
