Thessaloniki: When ice cream meets … “tzatziki” and “magiritsa”
An imaginative owner of an ice cream parlor in Thessaloniki, Abraham Papadopoulos attracts dozens of customers to his store every day, thanks to the special ice cream flavors he has created.
Options such as tzatziki, spicy bougiurdi and… octopus ouzo, make it difficult for the demanding palates who want ice cream flavors beyond the usual.
Speaking to ERT, Mr. Papadopoulos on how he combines Greek traditional cuisine with ice cream, said that he initially started making classic flavors.
The top preferences
“We did the tzatziki first and we saw that it had a response and so little by little we created extreme flavors,” said Mr. Papadopoulos.
It seems that the eccentricity in the choice of flavors has won the preferences of consumers who choose between names such as “watermelon feta”, “frappe”, “bougatsa”, “Florin pepper” and “smurfs”.
Responding to what is the biggest difficulty he faces in creating more than 35 flavors, he said, according to ertnews, that this concerns the flavors of drinks as alcohol can not be easily stabilized. “People want something new.
Foreigners mainly choose “tzatziki” and “feta with sesame and honey”, said Mr. Papadopoulos, providing customers with special selection options of flavors inspired by Greek cuisine.
