city entrance
A few metro stations from the heart of Toulouse, along the Garonne, Empalot is a district undergoing renewal, close to the city center, essentially made up of housing estates from the 1950s and generous public spaces. It is one of the gateways to the pink city.
With a plot located between the river and a football field, in a very open environment, the MG3 plot in the Empalot district is a figurehead in the general urban composition system and offers a metropolitan dimension to the project.
Composed of a vertical volume and a horizontal volume sliding against each other and recalling the surrounding volumes, this ” landscape building » welcomes 90 free housing units and 20 social housing units on behalf of the social landlord Toulouse Habitat. The accommodations, ranging from T1 to T5, are arranged over twelve floors in the vertical body of the building, and over five floors in the horizontal body.
On the ground floor there is a club house containing the changing rooms and a common room accessible from the football field, as well as two premises dedicated to the Resilience association.
Occitania committed to children with disabilities. Two basement levels also accommodate private parking accessible from the rear of the building.
The sliding layout of the two bodies of the building has created two generous outdoor green spaces, one hosting the main entrance hall of the building protected by a large landscaped porch, the other giving access to the stairwells at the entrance. back of the building.
Balconies and shadehouses
With a main facade facing south and bordering a football field, it was essential to think about how to guarantee summer comfort to all the accommodation. For this, a double system has been put in place, combining large metal shades extending large continuous balconies 2 m wide all along the south and west facades, constituting real additional rooms.
On the upper levels, only a shade covering the entire width of the balconies protects the inhabitants like a pergola. Acting like foliage, these shades have been thought out and designed to provide comfort similar to that offered by the cover of a tree on a sunny afternoon.
On the north side, simple balconies, protected by a cap on the last level, offer an outdoor space to the smallest types of housing.
Housing
Inside, the belvedere accommodates large types of housing, all of which have running balconies, and shadehouses to the south and west. The prairie building hosts the same layout of housing on its five floors, all through or double-oriented, and always accompanied by long balconies.
On the last level, a huge landscaped and vegetated ‘rooftop’ takes place over the entire length of the building. Accessible to all the inhabitants of the building, it offers a large terrace covered with a wooden tray, decorated with planted spaces, a solarium and a paddling pool for children.
