The Portuguese Luis Campos signed a three-year contract with Paris SG on Friday as a “sports adviser”, replacing the Brazilian Leonardo, landed on the evening of the 38th day of Ligue 1, according to several French sports media.
Aged 57, the manager “became sports adviser to the president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, in charge of the first team”, according to the daily Le Parisien, information confirmed by L’Equipe and RMC Sport.
This appointment had been expected since the departure – still not formalized – of Leonardo, recorded on the night of May 21 to 22, a few hours after the resounding announcement of the three-year extension of Kylian Mbappé, whose contract was about to expire.
According to Le Parisien, the Portuguese who passed through Monaco and Lille “will be supported this summer by Antero Henrique, the former sports director of PSG (2017-2019)”, to work in the Paris transfer window.
The precise contours of Campos’ function have yet to be defined, especially since Leonardo held the position of sports director. Asked by AFP, Paris SG did not respond on Friday in the middle of the evening.
One of his most urgent tasks will concern the identity of the coach, while the man in place, the Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino, is announced on the departure.
Major upheavals are expected this summer at PSG, which wishes to open a new era symbolized by the extension of Mbappé, long announced at Real Madrid.
