Vertonghen successful result for duel with ‘top country’ the Netherlands
17:38 – Where Kevin De Bruyne is not exactly looking forward to the Nations League matches that form the end of the football season, Jan Vertonghen is a lot more positive about the country competition. The Belgian defender is particularly looking forward to the meeting with the Dutch national team, which is scheduled for Friday evening.
“We open immediately against the most difficult impossible. It is a home match against a top country, so those are the most beautiful matches,” Vertonghen is quoted as saying by The newspapaer† “Of course we want to beat each other, but fortunately things are going smoothly between the supporters. In terms of experience, it is slightly quieter on the side than other derbies I have already played.”
Vertonghen will meet a lot of old acquaintances on Friday. “We all know each other, I have also played with guys from the Dutch core, and of course they want to win from us. The relations between the Netherlands and Belgium have changed a lot in the last ten years”, the FIFA world ranking is then Orange.
De Bruyne on the Nations League matches this week ‘important’, but Vertonghen thinks otherwise. “I see it differently than Kevin because I feel it differently,” says the Benfica defender, who played for Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur in the past. “He’s played a long season, and a lot is asked of him at City, so I’m following him. But I just see this as an award and I want to put it on my record.”
