He steals the cat’s collar, the GPS tracker leads him straight to jail
Because of a necklace, we gave him the bracelets. A 31-year-old man was tried in Toulouse court on Tuesday for burglary. The victims, a young couple from another region, were temporarily residing in a caravan near Cintegabelle while waiting to choose the place of their final settlement. After being absent last Saturday at the beginning of the afternoon, they had the unpleasant surprise to find on their return that their two cars had disappeared; worse, their caravan had been broken into, broken into and sprayed with washing-up liquid to hide the tracks.
But the thief would have done better to be less greedy. Not content with having stolen, among other things, a game console, an audio headset, check books and cash, he chose to take… the cat’s collar, which had a geolocation system . The device led the gendarmes directly to the reception area for Travelers in Saverdun, in Ariège, a few kilometers away. The man, who resides there, was picked up in possession of all the stolen items, with the exception of one of the two cars.
A dog could have been the third victim
Thanks to another pet, a woman brought to the investigation a confusing testimony: after a car “nearly ran over her little dog” in the area and at the time of the events, she noted the plate of the driver and indicated having seen him make suspicious “paths and places”. The man’s description matched the thief and this other vehicle, a gray Clio, will also be found in his home.
The burglar denied all the thefts at the bar, claiming to be only a fence. But despite the fervent plea of his lawyer Eric Mouton, the judges declared the man guilty. Already convicted twice for theft and violence, he left handcuffed after being sentenced to one year in prison, eight months of which were closed.
What alleviate the distress of the two suspects. But their situation remains precarious: following the destruction of the door of their caravan, they had to find a solution to relocate themselves. Their second car is still missing. “We no longer have our home”, named the young woman, in tears during the hearing. Even if the cat allowed them to lighten the bill, it will take them time to recover from this traumatic episode.
