Formula 1 | Satisfied with his 10th place in Monaco, Vettel ‘hopes for even better’
Sebastian Vettel has positive things to remember from the Monaco Grand Prix: the German managed to climb into Q3 on Saturday and take 9th place on the starting grid, then bring the point back from 10th place on Sunday despite an error at the start of the lesson.
The quadruple world champion made a mistake at the Sainte Dévote corner on lap 6 and was thus overtaken by Esteban Ocon, but thanks to a delicacy for the Frenchman, the Aston Martin driver was finally ranked ahead of the Alpine.
Vettel wanted to salute the performance of his team, while admitting that he would have liked to aim for an even better result.
“We’re not leaving empty-handed, so I think we’ve come back well.” commented the German pilot.
“We had some problems at the start of the race: I went wide at the first corner, then I was really on the maxi rain tires, and after that we did everything we could and I’m happy with this point scored at the end, although I hope I can do even better.”
“It was a race in which a lot could have happened, but it was clean and smooth for me. We managed to salvage a point which rewarded our efforts because it’s never easy to come back to Monaco , especially with a single dry trajectory.”
Another reason for satisfaction according to Vettel: Aston Martin F1 has made progress in understanding the developments it revealed in Barcelona.
“We have also learned more from the car, we have optimized the settings of the new parts that we have brought in recently. All of this progress has got us in the right direction for the races to come.”
