In Toulouse, the strike for a wage increase continues at Continental Automotive
Negotiations resumed earlier this week at Continental Automotive in Basso Cambo which employs 1,500 people. Since May 19, some of the 300 employees who manufacture electronic equipment for the automobile have continued their walkouts at the Toulouse site. It must be said that we are in the middle of a period of mandatory annual negotiations on salaries.
Negotiations began more than a month ago without reaching a conclusion for the moment. Management initially proposed a 2% increase and 62 euros paid with part of the profit-sharing. Corn the employees on strike demand in particular that this increase takes inflation into account. Mathieu Gratiot is the communication manager of Continental Automotive France.
“Currently, this strike is very little followed. On the Continental side, we are obviously always very attentive to signs of tension in this essential period for us of social dialogue. And we want this particularly important and ambitious annual negotiation for the employees in this period , follow its course calmly with the social partners. It is true that inflation is obviously one of the parameters which is taken into account in the negotiations. For us, it is essential. It is a question of ending this negotiation We have made a final proposal and we are indeed awaiting a return from the social partners.”
On the side of the CGT, Stéphane Jaïch, union representative, intends to support the demand of the strikers who are asking for an increase in at least 100 euros. “The shareholders receive a huge amount of dividends: 440 million euros, he is indignant. Employees are furious at management’s ridiculous proposals. A few years ago, it was Siemens and we had regular raises, like in all big companies. Since then, our salaries have been frozen.”
This new management proposal was sent to union representatives last Wednesday before the Ascension Bridge.
