Leclerc extremely disappointed after the Monaco Grand Prix
The most frustrating thing is that the Monegasque was surely doing everything perfectly. Errors are strategic and not on track caused by the driver. The first of the two committed by Ferrari came on lap 18, when the Italian team asked Leclerc to come in to put on intermediate tyres, one lap after Pérez. The Mexican stands out well ahead. Sainz remains on rain tyres.
The second comes on lap 21, when Ferrari asks Sainz and Leclerc to stop for slicks, before Leclerc is told to stay on track. Too late, the Monegasque is already in the pits and loses precious seconds behind his teammate. A second error which allows Max Verstappen to pass, Leclerc finds himself fourth.
“It was a bloody disaster today,” says Leclerc. “Victory was clearly in our hands. We had the performance, we had everything. I really don’t understand the pit call I received and need an explanation right now. I couldn’t do more, I was called just before the last corner, so I couldn’t react or ask for any information, but it was clearly the wrong choice… we had to do better. »
During the red flag improved by Mick Schumacher’s accident, Leclerc revealed to have “Used that time just to calm myself down, because as you could see, I was pretty pissed off. »
Charles Leclerc leaves Monaco nine points behind his main championship rival Max Verstappen. Behind him, Sergio Pérez is down to just six points thanks to his victory.
