“It makes no sense” Esteban Ocon (Alpine), twelfth in the Monaco GP does not digest his defeat
Esteban Ocon (twelfth, Alpine, at the microphone of Canal +): “I saw the pictures (from the clash with Hamilton) and we also went to see the commissioners to get an explanation because it’s illogical. That does not make any sense. They told us there was a new rule in place, that when there was a car inside, if there was contact, whoever gets attacked takes the loss. It would have been last year, it would have been a racing incident. They said that there it had changed, that they didn’t agree with the rules either, so I honestly don’t understand.
It completely ruins the weekend, we could have stayed at home. We were trying to manage the tires as well as possible so as not to degrade them at the end and, when I had the five seconds, Fernando pushed hard to try to make Hamilton go a little faster because he was quite lent on that race. The others came back behind suddenly out of the points. It’s hard to swallow this weekend. »
“I’m just a little sad not to score a point at the end, because we had a good race. »
Pierre Gasly (eleventh, AlphaTauri, at the Canal+ microphone): “We had nothing to lose. On the first lap, I chose to go into the pits because there was no point in sticking to the same strategy as the others. At first, it was extremely complicated in these conditions. On taking risks, I’m super happy with this strategy with the team, that we made these choices. Because where we were leaving, anyway, we had to take some. We managed to overtake, I admit it was quite hot, it wasn’t easy but it made the race a little more fun from where we were starting.
I’m just a little sad not to score a point at the end, because we had a good race. We lose six or seven seconds at the first pit stop on the first lap and second stop the same, we lose another two or three seconds. We leave ten seconds on the table which surely costs us tenth place. It’s like that, we still managed to have a good race and show some good things all weekend. »
