THE BALL – Artur Figueiredo (Liça) wins the Portuguese Cup (Billiards)
A 3-0 victory in the final, against Alexandre Vitorino (Clube de Bilhar Eborense), earned Artur Figueiredo, from Leça FC, the conquest of the Carambola Portuguese Cup (3 tables) of the 2021/22 season, whose Phase Final was played this week in Leiria.
Alexandre Figueire won the three sets, 15-7 (in 15 innings, or visits to the table), 15-10 (again 15 innings) and 15-13 (20 innings), respectively, in the final duel, to lift the trophy in the competition, organized by the Portuguese Billiards Federation.
Before, in the Final Phase of the tournament, the leceiros player had left behind, in the 16th finals, on the 21st of the current month, Fernando Maia (Benfica), whom he beat 2-1 (14-15, 15-9 and 15 ) -10) and, on the same day of the final, 22 of the current month, won the three clashes before the final. Full of four victories.
Artur Figueiredo won successively, and in that order, in the round of 16 Francisco Rodrigues (Sporting) by 2-1 (7-15, 15-7 and 15-10), Manuel Prates (Clube de Bilhar Eborense) by 2- 0 (12-10 within 25 innings, then 15-12) in the quarter-finals and semi-finals beat Mário Aranha (Centro Norton de Matos, Coimbra) by 2-1 (9-15, 15-9 and 15-3) until reaching the final of the Portuguese Cup against Alexandre Vitorino.
As for Alexandre Vitorino, a meritorious path to the final of the runner-up. In the ’16th’, he beat his Alentejo teammate Luís Santos by 2-0, and in the round of 16 he beat João Silva (Benfica) by the same result. Still 2-0 ahead, in the ‘quarters’, Pedro Pais (Leixões) and in the ‘halfs’ Paulo Andrade (Centro Norton de Matos).
