“F1 without Monaco is not F1”
“I think it would be a bad decision for both parties now,” said Leclerc about a disappearance of his national Grand Prix. “I have never known Monaco without F1, except for Covid reasons in 2020.”
“And F1 without Monaco, for me, is not F1. I think F1 has a history, some historic tracks like Silverstone, like Monza and also like Monaco and I think they should stay on the calendar. »
Asked about the question, Leclerc then evokes a possible modification of the route, which he still considers unlikely. “I think about it sometimes, if it would improve overtaking a lot. I don’t know, maybe before the tunnel you can go left and do a big straight. But how doable is it? »
” I do not know, “ adds the Monegasque, “Of course overtaking is difficult, but I think what we all like as drivers is the challenge, especially in qualifying to do that lap, just pushing. There’s no track that comes close to the adrenaline we feel in Monaco, and for me that’s part of F1 history and it should stay in F1. »
In the meantime, Charles Leclerc will try this weekend to finish his first Monaco Grand Prix, he who has had bad luck and mistakes in front of his home crowd.
