Pandemic described that Portugal has to change “the organization of aging”, says Manuel Lemos
The president of the União das Misericórdias Portuguesas, Manuel Lemos, says that the Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated “that we have to change the organization of the ship”.
“It is the biggest problem in Europe and the biggest problem in Portugal”, he said in the first panel of the conference “Post-Pandemic, Recovery and Resilience of the Social Pillar in a year of decentralization of competences”, organized by the Renaissance.
Manuel Lemos said that the elderly were the favorite target of the new coronavirus and Portugal had reacted in an “extraordinary” way.
“Nobody leaves our homes. I think their Portuguese homes are a success story in the way they responded to the pandemic”, he considered.
However, the president of the UMP warns that we will not “pass by” new pandemics and that it is necessary to “safeguard ourselves more and better”.
“In order not to transform Portugal into a huge home, we have to have a plan. We have to put a technique in quality”, he concluded.
Manuel added that “we don’t have a crisis of deep marks” and “we don’t have a crisis of deep marks”.
And problems are not resolved “proudly alone”, that is, the country must not “divorce itself from its collective responsibility”.
“In this I think the pandemic we are aware that we are aware together together”, he considered.
