The USA’s U-16 women’s youth national team beats Sweden 4-1, sweeping the UEFA tournament
RONNEBY, Sweden – The USA’s U-16 women’s youth national team defeated host Sweden, 4-1, to sweep all three matches convincingly at their UEFA Development Tournament.
The United States also defeated Norway, 4-0, on May 18 and defeated France, 3-1, on May 20, to beat its opponents 11-2 during the friendly competition. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, these were the first international matches for U-16 in the USA since February 2020 when the USA played in a UEFA Development Tournament in England.
The USA went under for the first time in the tournament when Sweden Bianca Hultback Nattland slog i 27th minute to bet her team to a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half belonged to the United States, who scored four unanswered goals in 29 minutes to end the match.
In a match where the USA shot Sweden 15-4, forward Kennedy Roesch finally acknowledged at 58th minute when she dribbled over the penalty box to the left and finished with a left shot from 12 meters. That was her second goal of the tournament.
The United States took the lead just five minutes later as a defender Carla Small, who comes from Waipahu, Hawaii, snatched a pass from Sweden inside his own expulsion box and finished for the final match winner. It was her first international goal.

Players born on January 1, 2006 or later were eligible for this competition and all 20 players who were called to travel to Sweden were born in 2006.
