Suspected assault in the crèche
timeline
In the Red Cross children’s world crawling group in the city of Salzburg, there is a suspicion that there was an attack on a species last autumn.
The Red Cross, as the operator of the facility, was recently made aware of the case by parents, Red Cross spokeswoman Roberta Thanner confirmed to APA in a report by the “Salzburger Nachrichten”. What type of assault it is and whether one or more children are affected cannot be said because of the ongoing proceedings.
Police and prosecutors are investigating
“We were informed by parents and took action immediately,” says Thanner. Discussions were held immediately with all those involved, external experts were called in and the public prosecutor’s office was informed: “Absolute transparency is very important to us here.”
The incident is believed to have happened in fall 2021. The suspect, for whom the presumption of innocence applies, has since left the company – but for a different reason, according to Thanner. Because the matter is now pending with the public prosecutor’s office, she cannot give any further details.
Own letter to the parents
Earlier this week, the Red Cross sent a letter to the parents of the children in this group inviting them to a parents’ evening next Monday. The state management, the toddler group team and representatives of the Salzburg Violence Protection Center want to provide information there.
According to the Red Cross, 48 children aged one to three years are currently cared for in six groups in the toddler group.
