Roberson’s Strasbourg surprises Monaco despite Alpha Diallo’s dynamic return / News
AS Monaco saw their SIG Strasbourg guests get away with a big 100-87 (24-24, 25-20, 20-19, 31-24) victory at Gaston-Médecin in the first playoff meeting of the two teams.
Points this season
The Lassi Tuovi-coached side stormed the EuroLeague squad and took the lead in Game 2 scheduled for Saturday, May 28 at 3:15 p.m. CET. In the event of another victory for Strasbourg, the 2017 French champions will qualify for the semi-finals.
As expected, John Roberson, who averaged 14.8 pts and 4.5 assists in the regular season, made things work on the offensive side for the winning team. The American goalkeeper, who led Chalon to the title five years ago, scored 20 points from an immaculate 7/7 of the field.
Yannis Morin and Amine Noua followed with 17 and 16 points respectively. For Monaco, who played without Mike James, Alpha Diallo returned from a month’s absence with a performance of 22 points, which was not enough.
Paris Lee, who already has a deal in place with Panathinaikos OPAP Athens for next season, added 17 points but Monaco were defensively vulnerable, conceding nearly 50 (49 and 51) points in each of the two halves.
This is the third defeat for the Roca Team this season against Strasbourg in four outings in total, including one in the Coupe de France).
