After a decade in the NHL, Alex Chiasson may be turning his attention to European hockey.
According to a report by Omar Gargantini from Swiss broadcaster RSI, HC Lugano from the Swiss national league is interested in signing Chiasson.
Chiasson, 31, scored 13 goals in 61 games in 2021-22 for the Vancouver Canucks, his sixth NHL team in a 10-year NHL career. He has also skated for the Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.
Chiasson was invited to Canucks training camp last fall as part of a professional tryout bid and landed a contract with the team early in the season. He was signed to serve as an additional option on the power play – he has proven to be a solid contributor on the power play wherever he has been in the NHL – while skating on the fourth line.
He was asked to score in the top ranks at times throughout the season and finished the season solidly, scoring seven goals in the final 12 games of the season.
Canuck’s president of hockey operations, Jim Rutherford, told Postmedia on Wednesday the Canucks were not in a position to make a decision until they were given a free hand.
