Zekirija Sejdini receives decorations from the city of Innsbruck – University of Innsbruck
On May 12th, the Islamic theologian and religious educator Zekirija Sejdini received the Cultural Medal of the City of Innsbruck, which is awarded for special merits in the field of art and culture.
In a celebratory setting, Innsbruck’s former city councilor, Ing. Martin Krulis, was awarded the ring of honor and twelve particularly deserving people from the field of culture were awarded the “Honorary Medal for Art and Culture of the City of Innsbruck”, including Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Zekiria Sejdini.
“Today, the focus is on people who have put their passion into serving art and culture and their resulting service to our city. Today it is about that area in which praise, honor and recognition are often distributed very unequally in relation to the financial means. One cannot live from appreciation, from applause alone. Art and culture cost energy, creativity and time, they must also be remunerated accordingly,” said Mayor Georg Willi in his words of welcome.
The award represents a special appreciation of Prof. Sejdini’s work to date. With tireless personal commitment, he always pursues the goal of establishing Islamic theology and religious education in Innsbruck, not only within the university framework, but especially in society and to bring people together. The focus of his work is the promotion of a plural ideological-religious society that is based on human dignity and mutual recognition and aims to generate attitudes that perceive cultural-religious plurality as enrichment and promote it.
