The probability of monkeypox in Ukraine is very small – the Ministry of Health
The probability of the spread of monkeypox through the territory of Ukraine is very small, says Chief Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin on TV.
According to him, to date, monkeypox has not been recorded in Ukraine.
“In order to get infected, you need long-term contact with a sick person. And this is quite unlikely, given that now there are limited tourist routes,” he said.
Outbreaks of monkeypox have been reported in Europe and some countries since early May.
More than 80 cases have been confirmed in twelve countries. These include the United States, Canada, Australia, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom.
What is monkeypox?
Smallpox is common in remote areas of Central and West Africa.
The outbreak has taken scientists by surprise, but the disease does not tend to spread easily among humans, so it has a low risk for the general public.
According to the British National Health Service, the disease is mild and older people live for several weeks.
There is no cure for monkeypox, but outbreaks can be controlled with prevention.
Studies show that the Imvanex smallpox vaccine is approximately 85% effective against monkeypox, as the two viruses are very similar.
The main symptoms of the disease are fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, swollen lymph nodes, fever and exhaustion.
