LGT Alpin Marathon: 21st edition with a new starting area – Liechtenstein

Sugar Mizzy May 22, 2022

BENDERN – On Saturday, June 11th, the 21st LGT Alpin Marathon will be held in Liechtenstein. The preparations for this are in full swing as usual, and over 450 runners are already on the various start lists. There is also a slightly modified route.

There will be minor changes to the route for the first event after the Corona break. The start was moved further north and is now in the area of LGT Bank, which, as is well known, operates a service center there. which quickly completes the long straight in the direction of Schaan, because the field of participants is led around 700 meters after the start to the right via the Binnenkanal into the «Tentschaweg».

This brings certain advantages for all cases. This means that the main road between Schaan and Bendern is free for normal traffic again much more quickly and, on the other hand, the running surface along the “Tentschagraba” is easier on the joints. Nevertheless, the preparations for this year’s run in mid-June are already in full swing, and numerous runners already seem to be highly motivated and have already entered the starting lists.

Magnet for running enthusiasts

For over 20 years, the LGT Alpin Marathon has been a magnet for all running enthusiasts who are looking for challenges at the limit. The entire route of 42.2 km leads over 1870 meters in altitude to the finish in Malbun. The popular half marathon PLUS (25 km) with the finish in Steg has a slightly shorter distance. This year, of course, there is again the possibility of dividing the entire route between two participants and completing it as a relay.

The first runner covers the 25 km from Bendern to Steg, where he hands over to the team member, who then runs the remaining 17 km to Malbun. A special feature this year is the children’s race in Malbun. Children born in 2006 or later can complete a circuit of 600 m and, depending on category and age, run between one and four laps. This registration is also done online.

Pink Ribbon at it again

The good charity walk in favor of the breast cancer organization Pink Ribbon will be carried out again this year. In the solidarity run, the first 10 km of the marathon must be run from Bendern to the town. A run over 2 km from the Rheinpark Stadium to the Rathausplatz in Vaduz is offered as a short distance. This can be contested with a pram, dog or bicycle.

Registrations are already in progress

Registration for the 21st LGT Alpin Marathon has been possible for a long time. As every year, you can only register online and this is possible until June 8th.
