Late 1-1: Austria Klagenfurt finishes with a point in Salzburg
Klagenfurt does not want to be a party guest, but an opponent, which sends the Austrians ahead even before the Bundesliga final duel at Salzburg. And the Carinthians presented themselves courageously at the beginning and showed little respect. So after a Wöber mistake, Florian Jaritz knocked on the Bulls’ goal for the first time after just three minutes. Lennart Moser, who was allowed to play again in the Klagenfurt goal to say goodbye, had to attack Karim Adeyemi for the first time after a good eight minutes. Even if Salzburg claimed superiority in the field, and combined values that were often worth seeing up to the penalty area, Zlatko Junuzovic and Co. initially didn’t have any great chances. After almost half an hour, Moser was forced into a real flight for the first time in a Solet long-range shot. In the closing stages of the first half, the Bulls became more specific, with Junuzovic hammering the ball twice over the bar in his last game for Salzburg (38′, 41′).
After the Klagenfurt team did everything right defensively in the first half, they went one better offensively early in the second round. After a Greil free-kick into the penalty area against Markus Pink, Turgay Gemicibasi headed the ball to make it 1-0 for the guests after just under 48 minutes. Just three minutes later, the midfield engine would have quickly put together a brace, but his free kick from the edge of the penalty area was defused by Nico Mantl in the Bulls’ goal, which is worth seeing. After these moments of shock, the master increased the pressure again and also took more shots at Moser. This saved for the first time in the second half after almost an hour against Benjamin Sesko from close range. Junuzovic’s time at Salzburg ended five minutes later, and the ex-national team kicker was given a standing ovation.
And with that, the train from the Salzburg game was out for a short time, Austria was getting more and more game shares. After 70 minutes, Markus Pink made it 2-0, but he put the ball next to the goal after going it alone. But just three minutes later, Florian Jaritz had to clear the line for Moser, who had already been beaten, and cleaned up a Sesko header. In this phase, it all happened in quick succession, because Alex Timossi-Andersson started at the other end, but his shot only found its way into the side netting (76′). Luka Sucic was close to equalizing again with ten minutes to go, but his shot from the 16 line went to the outside post.
Austria prevented two bull records
But as is so often the case in Salzburg, a game like this takes a damn long time. Usually more than 90 minutes. In the 93rd minute, Sekou Koita really equalized. With that, however, the Waidmannsdorfers became a bit of a master party fright for the cops. Because that two possible records were taken away from them. With a win, Salzburg could have matched the record of 26 season successes set by Wiener Austria in 1986. And without Gemicibasi’s goal, Salzburg would have conceded the fewest goals of the season. The 19th due to the Klagenfurt War was one too many.
