Off the beaten track: by bike to Innsbruck
This is made possible by a new rear carrier on the 960X direct bus to and from Lienz.
Good news for bike fans: the direct bus 960X now also takes bikes on the route from Innsbruck to Lienz and back. A rear carrier designed for motorways and expressways was mounted on the double-decker, which can hold up to three bicycles per trip. “In this way, up to 24 bicycles or e-bikes can be transported every day,” explains Ingrid Felipe, Minister for Mobility. The upgrade of the buses was financed from the state economic stimulus package.
The Regioexpress with the rear carrier is currently the only one of its kind, as this system was newly developed for intercity buses. In contrast to conventional rear carriers, the bicycles are no longer hung on the front wheel, but placed on a rail parallel to the rear. By unfolding when not in use, an unnecessary overhang can be avoided. E-bikes and therapy tricycles are also transported.
Loading and unloading is very easy – the bus driver checks the loading security. “With the new rear carrier, an innovative system for transporting bicycles has been created. We are proud to have the first models on the Regioexpress 960X,” says VVT Managing Director Alexander Jug. Bicycles can be taken along free of charge, the space for the “bike” can be used as well as the seat on the bus on-line be reserved.
