Ana Gomes defends that Dili is of strategic importance for Portugal

Ana Gomes, a socialist activist, was a candidate for the 2021 presidential elections without support from the PS, in which Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was re-elected President of the Republic.
As a diplomat, he served in missions to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva and New York and in embassies in Tokyo and London. Between 1999 and 2003 she was the head of mission and ambassador in Jakarta, having followed the process of independence of Timor-Leste, achieved after a liberation struggle against the Indonesian occupation and the re-establishment of Portuguese-Indonesian diplomatic relations.
