Paper plane world championships in Salzburg: New paper plane world champions in three disciplines – distance, airtime and aerobatics
© Sports report
Red Bull Paper Wings is dead Official Paper Airplane World Championship. The idea is simple and awesome:
students must enter fly a simple sheet of paper as far, as long, or as artfully as possible. Pilots compete in hundreds of qualifiers around the globe, and national winners in three categories – distance, flight duration and aerobatics – secure a place in the world finals at the iconic Hangar-7 in Austria, where new world champions were crowned.
Competing in the sixth World Finals at Salzburg’s Hangar-7, the National Finalists were the elite of more than 61,000 applicants (a record number) from over 60 countries who had competed in more than 500 Qualiflyer events.
A Red Bull Paper Wings World Finals record for longest flight time was also set during Friday’s qualifying session. Rana Muhammad Usman Saeed (PAK)’s qualifying throw was 16.66s and he won the final with a throw of 14.86s. While this is not a world record, it is a Red Bull Paper Wings record.
