An exhibition about the war in Ukraine has opened in the German Bundestag
A photo exhibition about Russia’s war “Ukraine: the price of freedom” opened on May 17 in the German Bundestag.
This was reported by Ukrinform’s own correspondent.
“It’s hard to look at these photos. They are embarrassing. They scare. But we have to watch, “said Berbel Bass leader Bundestag, opening the exhibition.
She recalled her recent visit to Bucha and Irpen, where some of the exhibits were made, finding that she would never forget what she saw.
77 years after the end of the Second World War, the defenseless in Ukraine are again victims of war crimes, in Ukraine because of the looting and torture, rape and murder – the horrors of the twentieth century are back, they said.

She thanked for the organization of the exhibition, as German society needs to be stirred up, removed from a state of passivity and inability to empathize.
The politician also noted that with the help of some media the aggression is “covered up by cynical propaganda”, so it is also important to spread information about the true face of the war, and choose the facts so that crimes do not escape punishment.
“The West has not been serious enough about the threat from our Russia for a long time, not least… Now Ukraine needs support in its male struggle for existence, as well as a European perspective,” said the head of the Bundestag. She called it the responsibility of the German parliament to prevent a democratic situation where military force becomes a means of achieving political success again.
Galina Yanchenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada and co-chair of the Ukrainian-German Friendship Group, addressed the audience with a video greeting. She noted that for Ukraine it is not just a struggle against the aggressor, it is a struggle for existence as a people, as a state.
“We have to protect not only our territories and people from invaders. Today we have to defend the truth – about our country, about this war, about the atrocities committed by the Russian army in our cities. The Russian propaganda machine is lying insidiously about this, ”the deputy shared. She called the most horrible that the enemy had revived the ghosts of the past – the ideology of Nazism, now called “Nazism”, and the study of Nazi methods, striking terrible genocide of the Ukrainian people.
“Nazism of the twentieth century and” racism “of the XXI century have much in common. I would like the final to be common – it is an international tribunal for all war criminals, “Yanchenko said.
She took the opportunity to remind that Ukraine expects political support from Germany. First, the provision of heavy weapons to drive out the enemy and free the civilian population from torture and violence. Secondly, the strengthening of economic sanctions, including in the energy sector. And thirdly, supporting Ukraine’s membership in the EU, because no EU country had a high price for its European value.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Berlin Andriy Melnyk, in turn, expressed hope that German politicians would support Ukraine even more to end such crimes as soon as possible. The diplomat reminded that the Bundestag voted by an impressive majority of 586 votes in favor of providing Ukraine with heavy weapons. 20 days have passed since then and the count has not been sent yet, Melnyk told the government. He makes every day the Ukrainian state is worth new victims. Ukrainians hope and expect the federal government to do what the legislators decide and eventually approve the dispatch of tanks and other weapons systems. He denied allegations by some politicians that it would weaken the Bundeswehr, and called on the Bundestag, the parliament of the EU’s strongest economy, following the example of the United States to approve a land lease for Ukraine and contribute to Putin not winning the war.
The photo exhibition was organized by the Embassy of Ukraine in Berlin on the initiative of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk. Its curators are the Ukraine-Hilfe Berlin and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Berlin). It works for 9 days.
