Two burglaries within a few hours – Liechtenstein
VADUZ/BALZERS – There was a burglary in Vaduz on Sunday evening. The perpetrator was arrested shortly thereafter. A few hours later there was an attempted theft in Balzers. State police warn.
There was a burglary in Vaduz around 10 p.m. on Sunday. A man gained access to a shop through the main entrance door. As the state police announced on Monday, he handed himself several items inside and left the shop again. A local resident observed the man doing what he did and informed the state police. After a brief pursuit, they were able to arrest the perpetrator.
In Balzers, there was an attempted theft by sneaking in around 12:30 a.m. on Monday night. According to the state police, an unknown group of perpetrators went to a residential building and tried to get into the house through the main entrance door. Because this was locked, however, it remained an attempt.
Since there are always attempts to sneak in, the state police advise:
- windows and doors when leaving the house. Don’t leave keys, especially in obvious places like under the doormat.
- Don’t let the house appear “abandoned” and don’t give any indication of absence: Don’t close all windows with shutters and regularly (leave) the mailbox empty. Messages on the answering machine can also indicate absence.
- Notify the neighborhood of your absence. This can intervene quickly in the event of abnormalities.
